Located in the west of Picardie, the department of Oise has something to offer any visitor. There are historical towns, buildings and important sites, dating from medieval times to the First World War. Families will be well entertained by the major amusement parks in the region, while horse lovers are well catered for with several equestrian centres. Other outdoor activities can also be enjoyed in the region's forests and lakes.

Beauvais

The highlight of the medieval town of Beauvais is the unfinished St Pierre cathedral, started in the 13th century and abandoned 300 years later. However, the architect and designers still had time to create the highest chancel in all of France, some exquisite stained glass windows and an amazing astronomical clock, with over 90,000 moving parts, which still works today. The town of Beauvais is also famous for the production of tapestries, many of which hang in the greatest houses and museums across Europe. The National Tapestry Museum is found in Beauvais, near to the cathedral, putting on a number of specialist temporary exhibitions as well as its permanent collection.

Amusement Parks

There are two amusement parks in the south of Oise that children and adults of all ages will enjoy. The famous Asterix park is inspired by the famous comic strip characters and features many fairground rides and roller coasters, while the Mer de Sable park nearby is situated on a giant inland sand dune. It also features rides as well as live shows and entertainment. Both parks are located on the edge of the Oise-France Regional Nature Park, which can provide more sedate entertainment for those who don't enjoy thrill rides. The three forests that make up the Park are ideally suited for walking, biking and horse riding, and there are a number of trails of different lengths and difficulties that you can follow. The four Commelles Lakes are man-made bodies of water that also provide visitors with peaceful natural scenery and the opportunity to explore the buildings that the monks left behind too.

Not only can fans of equestrianism take a ride on a horse themselves, but they can also visit the famous town of Chantilly, where the famous races the Prix de Diane and the Prix du Jockey Club are held every June. There is a large stable in the town that trains top class racehorses and visitors can take tours around the Living Horse Museum, which often holds temporary exhibitions and shows.

The Author writes for Holiday Home Rentals who have a selection of Gites in Oise and Villas in France which can be rented direct from their owners. If you want to know more about the fairground rides, check funfairgroundrides.com

The Ride of Your Life - Funfairs in British

From city exhibition to country fair, from live-music to livestock, there's one thing that all these events have in common.  ( you probably already know what it is):  As you follow the teeming crowd towards the turnstiles, as the smells of hotdogs and hay assail your senses, new sounds float by on the hot summer air... maybe a long, low rumble; maybe a cacophony of delighted screams; maybe the call of a Carny...  Then you see it... it could be a Ferris wheel or even the trellis-work of an old wooden rollercoaster, but somewhere deep down inside, your inner child just let out a whoop of excitement.  That's what the feeling in your stomach is.  No matter what your age, the thrill of the Midway isn't lost on anyone.  Let's go to the funfair!
Large disco rides for funfair

Yes, the prize-winning heifer is fascinating, the rodeo is intriguing and the local goods and produce are well worth perusing, but nor until you've had your fill of adrenaline-inducing thrill rides!  Whether you're breaking into a cold sweat while looking at the spinning teacups or licking your lips looking at that triple corkscrew rollercoaster, there's a ride worth jumping on somewhere in the province.  After scouring BC, here are just a few of the fairs with Midways worth checking out...

The Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair - May 15- May18

If you find yourself at Surrey's Cloverdale Fairgrounds during the May Long Weekend, you'll discover the true meaning of the term, rodeo fair.  This epic event brings together folks from all over the Lower Mainland and even further, in a celebration of the industry and agriculture that has been the area's lifeblood since before the fair's 120 year existence.  Some of the finest rodeo competitors on the planet converge on BC for bareback, saddle bronc, bull riding and barrel racing competitions, competing for over 360-thousand dollars in prize money.  However, for thrill-rides minus the saddle-sores, this is also home to the Fraser Valley's biggest Midway with over 30 hair-raising rides.  Yeeehaw!

Billy Barker Days - July 16-July 19

The heart of the Cariboo's famous Goldrush country comes to life again when the town of Quesnel hosts the famous Billy Barker Days.  Named after the legendary prospector who helped settle the area, this elaborate long weekend includes everything anyone could possibly find entertaining.  Pancake breakfasts, a parade, a beauty pageant, a barn dance, live-entertainment, fireworks... even extreme events ranging from mud bogs and sand drags to rodeos, pie-eating contests, golf tournaments and a triathlon!  And all weekend long, a fantastic carnival offers all the amusement rides you can imagine!

Comox Valley Exhibition - August 29-August 30

Halfway up Vancouver Island, the Comox Valley Exhibition brings the island together in a grand display of its people and their fun-loving spirit!  Animal-lovers flock to the 4-H Club's Achievement Day; growing sectors showcase agriculture, silviculture and aquaculture.  Even hobbyists, home-gardeners and household cooks get the chance to show their stuff.  But the family-friendly highlight for many is the impressive Midway provided by West Coast Amusements Ltd.  In fact, this company provides safe, certified and insured funfair rides for many of the smaller fairs, exhibitions and events on both Vancouver Island and the Mainland.  Just ask your kids - apart from the obvious favourites like the Ferris Wheel and the Tilt-a-Whirl, they're sure to recognize the rides they know and love: Cliffhanger, Gravitron, Himalaya, Inverter, Orbiter, Ring of Fire, Scrambler, Sizzler, Spider, YoYo, the Zipper...  And if their ears don't perk up?  You obviously don't take them to enough funfairs!

Oak Bay Tea Party - June 6-June7

While not the home to any famous rodeos or award-winning bovines, the Oak Bay Tea Party scores huge points for its sheer picturesque elegance.  More resembling a small English town fair, this half-century-old event takes place on the beautiful grassy expanse of Willows Beach in the heart of Victoria's high-end British-influenced neighbourhood of Oak Bay.  Thousands of families flock to this event which includes a parade, beach-side live entertainment, food and a Midway set on the lush grass that gently slopes down to one of the city's favourite sandy beaches.

Saanich Fair - September 5 - September 7

Just north of Victoria on the beautiful Saanich Peninsula, the Saanich Fair celebrates the rich agricultural and livestock heritage of the area through demonstrations, competitions and displays.  Prize-winning produce and livestock, Highland dancing, live llamas, quilting competitions... everything's here to make this one of the most authentic country fairs in the province - including a terrific Midway with enough rides to make you question eating that last hotdog...

Birmingham Pride Festival

Birmingham is England's second largest population center, whose wealth was a product of the multitude of trade spawned by the Industrial Revolution. The city has less historic and aesthetically pleasing architecture than most of its national counterparts due to most of its buildings being leveled during the Second World War, but it is rapidly gaining a reputation for its multi-ethnic, cosmopolitan culture and diversity. Home to three campuses and the accompanying night-spots and arts centres one might expect of a campus society, it is also boasts a colorful gay scene that furthers its youthful and progressive image. Nowhere is the colorful diversity and embracing atmosphere of the city more apparent than during the Birmingham LGBT Pride Festival and Parade.
Fairground Trackless Train for Kids

The Birmingham Pride Festival is touted by its organizers as the largest LGBT event in the UK. The festival is held annually over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend in May, centering around Birmingham's gay village of Hurst Street. The LGBT population of the Midlands usually descends on this area during the festival which features a crowd of over 30,000 participants and spectators where the Rainbow flag reigns supreme. The centerpiece of the event is the Carnival Parade which marches through the city from Victoria Square to Hurst Street in a bewildering profusion of color, music and personality. The numerous gay pubs and bars of Birmingham's famous nightlife come alive with line-ups of famous entertainers both local and international, with the huge party tents being transformed into nightclubs which see a friendly intermixing of gay, straight and transgender revelers.
Kiddie fairground pirate ship rides

Nor is the fun restricted to adults and the night-time. Market and community stalls line the Bromsgrove, Gooch, Kent and Lower Essex streets as well as child-friendly fairground events and kids funfairground rides with the traditional cabaret marquee taking center stage. The pedestrianized layout of the city, with its attractive walkways, makes getting around during the event very easy. For more rides, you can check http://funfairgroundrides.com/.

If you find yourself in Birmingham during the month of May, finding accommodation in one of the hotels in Birmingham city centre is advised so you don't miss out on the revelry. Copthorne Hotel Birmingham is specially recommended, as it is a beautifully appointed and centrally placed Birmingham hotel located in the centre of the city within reach of its best leisure attractions. 10 Tips for Event Planning When Hiring Funfair Rides and Attractions

Funfair Rides and Attractions are becoming very popular ways to entertain guests at a large variety of events such as Summer Balls, Weddings, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs', Family Fun Days, Birthday Parties and many many more. I have found that using a few tried and tested tips will help ensure that everything runs smoothing even if you have never hired a fairground ride before. In fact, with this in mind and because there are always pitfalls to fall into I have put together my top ten tips to help make sure that your event does not fall into any of the traps.
Kids excavator ride for funfairs

Always book from a reputable company, ideally one to which you have been recommended, or do not be afraid to ask for references.

Consider the time of year of your event and choose your rides accordingly, ie: in the Winter try to choose rides with a roof or completely enclosed such as the venturer simulator.
Funfair samba balloon rides for sale

Large funfair rides such as Dodgems or Carousel come on heavy lorries, please take this into consideration when placing the rides onto grass. In the event of heavy rain you may wish to consider trackway or have a "plan b" location on hard standing such as a carpark.

If you are in any doubt as to the viability of getting rides http://funfairgroundrides.com/funfair-rides-for-sale/  into a venue please ask for a site visit.
Ensure you have seen the insurance and ADIPS certificate for each of the rides you are booking and that they are in date and the name is the same on each certificate.

Make sure you have a contract with whoever you book with and you have clauses covering eventualities such as the wholesale funfair ride you wanted does not turn up or it is not in an acceptable condition.
2 seater funfair human gyroscope rides

It is important that you have a mobile contact number for the person coming on the day, most agency staff go home at 5pm and are closed over the weekend and although they have answerphones they do not normally leave mobile contact number on these answerphones, so you may wish to ask for this in advance of the event.

Beware of falling foul of the Showmans' Guild, a lot of ride owners are members of this organisation and there are a number of rules that can affect your event especially if it has happened before. You may want to ask them sign a form to say they will not claim "guild rights" on your event.

Don't be coerced into paying in cash on the day, and you should not have to pay the full amount due before the ride(s) arrive on site.

Double check the fee includes everything to run the ride on the day including generators, staff, public liability etc as there are some scams operating on eBay at the moment which look like a good deal but on the day of the event when the rides are all set up ready you find out that it doesn't include power to run it and suddenly there is an additional amount to pay.

These tips are the top 10 and can be found on our website along with information about the Showmans Guild as referred to above http://funfairgroundrides.com/

The Funfair Amusement Ride of Your Life - Funfairs in British Columbia

In many part of the world, the age-old tradition of the fair is as much a part of summer as swimming holes, road-trips and camping.  British Columbia is no exception.

Playland at the PNE - April 25-September 27

Located in Hastings Park in downtown Vancouver, Playland is the Midway of the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) and the oldest of its kind in Canada.  No surprise, then, that the famous 1958 wooden rollercoaster is still one of the main attractions.  (And with Vancouver's ever-changing weather causing all that wood to contract and expand, the ride itself is never the same twice!)  While the PNE's displays, animal races, livestock shows, demo-derbies and monster trucks attract thousands every August, it's Playland's outrageous rides which keep the crowds coming before the exhibition itself and after the prize-winning steers have gone home -- easy to see why with world-class screamers such as the Breakdance!, Corkscrew, Crazy Beach Party, Drop Zone, Enterprise, Flume, Gladiator, Hellevator, Hell's Gate, Music Express, Pirate, Revelation, Scooters, Scrambler, Wave Swinger and Westcoast Wheel.  There's a whole choice of rides for the kids (or vertigo-stricken adults) in your party.  Try the Dune Buggies, Flying Elephants, Helicopters, Honeybee Express, KC's Raceway, Merry-Go-Round, Kettle Creek Mine Coaster, Paddle Wheeler, Raiders, Stunt Cycles or Super Slide.

This only touches the surface of the crazy carnival choices available in and around British Columbia.  Whether you're a kid or a big kid with kids of your own, there's a fair with your name all over it and with it, some thrill-rides you don't want to miss.  Hey, it's your vacation.  Unless you work for NASA, when else are you going to freefall, take corners at impossible speeds or spin upside down?  For that matter, when else are you going to make a lunch out of hotdogs, soda pop and cotton candy? History of the Funfair

Dodgems for fairground, carousels, and candy floss: nowadays, we couldn't imagine a funfair without them. But let's take a step back in time, and see just how much has changed...
Large disco rides for funfair

The tradition of gathering for both trade and entertainment dates right back to the dawn of civilization. But as the nineteenth century approached, the focus began to shift from commerce, to amusements. Jugglers, acrobats, musicians and magicians were a common sight, and cheap funfair rides such as the carousel appeared - albeit in horse-drawn form.

In was in the Victorian era, though, that the fairground as we know it today really took shape. Amusements became big industry. Local fairs faded in comparison to the excitement of big, travelling shows; and whilst traditional stalls such as coconut shies and the 'Hammer Bell' strength test remain popular to this day, it was the advent of steam power that really brought a whole new level of fun to the fair.

In 1868, an engineer called Frederick Savage set the trend for mechanised fairground rides when he combined the steam engine with the humble carousel. Not much of a thrill, perhaps, but it was the first step towards the bigger, faster rides that make the funfair what it is today. There was, however, one catch. Whilst the Showman's Steam Locomotive of 1889 made it easier to transport these contraptions, the practicality of offering wood- and iron-construction funfair rides for hire was still hindered by their sheer weight and size in http://Funfairgroundrides.com/funfair-rides-for-sale/. Once again, technology saved the day.

As lightweight building materials such as plastics and aluminium became more prevalent around the turn of the 20th century, it became possible for travelling showmen to offer their fairground rides for hire virtually anywhere they were needed. What's more, with modern electronic and hydraulic mechanism, set-up times have been reduced to only a few hours, making funfair hire a fun and easy way to liven up any event.

Here at Irvin Amusements, we're proud to say that we've been there since day one. Established in 1860, at the height of the funfair boom, we have experience bringing fairground rides through BestonFairgoundrides Manufacturer, traditional Victorian funfair stalls and a range of other amusements to locations all across the UK.
